So what now? You’ve decided you absolutely have to have these  individual eyelash extensions that you’ve heard so much about ,but you don’t have a clue what next to do. Well, here’s some advice on how best to go about things:

 

Before your appointment:

 

·        Find yourself the best expert you can to work on you. It should be a certified aesthetician or cosmetologist. You should expect to have a full, free consultation.  Ensure that you confirm the type of adhesive to be used. It should be non-formaldehyde. Also make sure that they have a wide range of lash types for customising to your eyelashes.

 

·        Most important in this process is picking the right consultant for this. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SUBJECT YOURSELF TO ANYONE OTHER THAN A WELL- TRAINED EYELASH TECHNICIAN. Ask for a certificate. Where none exists, here are some tips to know whether you are dealing with a pretender or not. What to look out for:

1.      You should expect to be lying down (not sitting) on a salon bed and not sitting up.

2.      Your eyes should be protected with silicone pads. This is crucial to protect your eyes against specialist razor sharp tweezers.

 

 

3.      The glue should not come in contact with your skin under any circumstances.

4.      The eyelash should indeed be single and not in clumps of any number.  They SHOULD NOT look like this:

5.      Look out for professional equipment in use. This should not be a 15 minute “stick-em-on” job. It’s a highly specialised technique, requiring the use of specialist equipment. You should expect  to see this:

 

 

It bears repeating: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SUBJECT YOURSELF TO ANYONE OTHER THAN A WELL-TRAINED EYELASH TECHNICIAN.

 After your appointment:

Once you have picked your qualified technician and had your lashes installed, take care of them if you want them to last as long as possible. In order to do that, do the following:

 

·        Do not wet your extensions for 1 or 2 days in order to avoid re-activating the glue which may cause lashes to slip off or clump together

·        Do not let them come in contact with oil based products such as creams, shampoos, conditioners or even oil based eye make-up removers.

·        Comb them out. To prevent them criss-crossing and twisting, use a clean mascara wand. Close one eye and sweep the wand carefully through them.

·        Try to avoid picking and pulling your new, longer eyelashes no matter how tempting.
